On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone, it is my distinct pleasure to warmly welcome Mr. Gundo Maswime as our Chief Executive Officer, effective 2 January 2026.

Mr. Maswime joins the organisation as a seasoned and highly respected civil engineer and public sector infrastructure specialist, bringing with him over 20 years of extensive experience across technical engineering, economic development, public governance, and system-level strategic leadership. His career reflects a rare combination of technical depth, policy insight, and executive leadership, qualities that align strongly with the strategic ambitions of the Musina Makhado SEZ.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UKZN, an Honours degree in Public Policy, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Pretoria. Demonstrating his continued commitment to academic excellence and innovation, Mr. Maswime is currently completing his PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town.

Mr. Maswime’s leadership track record is both credible and impactful. He has held senior executive roles in Ekurhuleni, Midvaal, and Emfuleni Municipalities, where, as Executive Director for Infrastructure, he successfully led turnaround strategies that addressed critical infrastructure backlogs and revived more than 16 previously abandoned projects. His ability to drive delivery, restore institutional confidence, and achieve measurable results under complex conditions is well recognised.

The Board is confident that Mr. Maswime’s experience, vision, and principled leadership will play a pivotal role in advancing the Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone’s mandate, strengthening governance, and unlocking sustainable industrial and socio-economic development.
